Craft beer in Thailand is more and more popular among the drinkers. They are looking for something different to experience and appreciated rather than large scale production beer. For us, we would like to explore the different taste of beer and we found out it is quite fun to try new beer or drinks.
“A microbrewery or craft brewery is a brewery that produces small amounts of beer (or sometimes root beer), typically much smaller than large-scale corporate breweries, and is independently owned. ” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microbrewery). As a result, we can assume that the beer that product and neatly made or produce for individual taste. Many of brewery use the natural ingredient or local ingredient to differentiate themselves from mass production one such as coconut, orange or spice.
Small - Independent - Tradition
Small – Small production known as Microbrewery
Independent – Not owned by Alcohol company, most of them are small company
Tradition – Use the traditional ingredient and non traditional ingredient to make different taste and flavor. Flavor malt are not considered as Craft beer.
However, there are many question from my customer and friends in our shop when we introduce this beer to them.
“Why they do not produce in Thailand, are you sure it is Thai craft beer?”
All of Thai craft beer in this moment legally produce outside Thailand, such as Stonehead produced in Cambodia and Fullmoon produced in Australia. Due to Thai’s brewery regulation, you must brew at least 100.000 liters per year if you are selling on-site or 10 million liters per year for distribution. Moreover it is contrast with the core of craft beer itself. However the small producer try to push to law to legalize in the near future,
This brewery got many awards from outside Thailand and well known from Chalawan. It got Australian International Beer Award with Best American Style Pale Ale. .
Release the lastest one called Bussaba Ex Weisse. Wit with its spice, clove, Coriander, citrus and touch of sweet floral It received the award of 2017 Australian internation Beer Awrad (Bronze – German style Hefe and Bronze for ber design).
Lemongrass Kolsch – This Craft beer blended between scent of lemongrass and Plisner malt with light body in Kolsch style. The taste is fresh and perfect for Thai summer. Even though it call Lemongrass and have lemongrass as main ingredient, the smell and taste are not too strong as we imagine.
Coconut Cream Ale – This cream ale is combination of Ale and Lager. Light Body with scent of perfumed coconut.
Hazelnut Chocolate Stout – Dark Beer that is designed with scent of Chocolate and Hazelnut, medium body. If you prefer a little bit of creamy texture, you will like it.
Mahanakorn means Big city . The character of this beer is perfect hot weather.
Mahanakorn is Wit beer in Belgium style. Touch of fresh orange, light spice and fruity flavor, For us it is perfect for summer night with the taste of orange. After check out their page, the best way to drink is to serve with slice of orange.
Sticky Mango – Sticky mango is pale Ale with 4.8% . It Inspired from Thai All time favorite dessert “Sticky rice with Mango”. Once you pour the beer to the glass, you will feel the scent of Sweet mango and coconut.
